BENEV Company Inc., an FDA Registered cosmeceutical manufacturer of globally recognized medical professional line, along with their Medical Advisory Board comprised of five global medical leaders, is proud to announce that that the Prospective, Split-Face, Randomized Placebo-Controlled Study conducted on Skin-Brightening Efficacy of Exosomes Derived from Human Adipose Tissue-Derived Stem/Stromal Cells by ExoCoBio, Inc., an equity invested partner of BENEV was published by Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI) on Nov 11th, 2020.
Hyperpigmentation or hypermelanosis is a skin disorder caused by excessive accumulation of melanin in skin. It is characterized by the presence of darker patches mostly in the cheeks, upper lip, chin, and forehead. Many skin-brightening agents, such as kojic acid, hydroquinone, retinoids, and vitamin C, have been widely used as topical treatments but with limited efficacy and side effects. Although hyperpigmentation is not a life-threatening dermatologic condition, it has psychosocial effects, which may reduce the quality of life for both women and men. Treating hyperpigmentation remains challenging, leaving an unmet demand for a safe and efficacious alternative for skin brightening.
This study was conducted by a team of world renowned scientists, doctors including Byong Seung Cho, Jinah Lee, Yujin Won, Diane Duncan, Richard C. Jin, Joon Lee, Hyuck Hoon Kwon, Gyeong-Hun Park, Steve Hoseong Yang, Byung Chul Park, Kui Young Park, Jinkwon Youn, Junsoo Chae, Minwoong Jung and Yong Weon Yi. This 8-week prospective, split face, double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled clinical study was conducted based on 21 female volunteers, ages 39 and 55, suffering with hyperpigmentation according to the Helsinki Declaration and the Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines of the Korea Dermatology Research Institute (KDRI; Seongnam, South Korea) and the South Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s regulations on the evaluation of functional cosmetics and related guidelines. This study was designed and developed to evaluate the anti-pigmentation effect in vitro and skin brightening efficacy in vivo of exosomes derived from human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (ASC-exosomes).
Studies have shown that stem cells and their derivatives, including conditioned media, have inhibitory effects on skin pigmentation. However, evidence supporting the skin-brightening effect of exosomes derived from stem cells is lacking. Researchers studied the anti-pigmentation effect in vitro and skin brightening efficacy in vivo of exosomes derived from human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem/ stromal cells (ASC-exosomes). Exosomes were isolated from the stem-cell conditioned media of ASCs using the tangential flow filtration method. ASC-exosomes reduced intracellular melanin levels in B16F10 melanoma cells regardless of the presence of the melanocyte-stimulating hormone. The skin-brightening efficacy of a cosmetic formulation containing ASC-exosomes was assessed in human volunteers with hyperpigmentation in a prospective, split-face, double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled study. The ASC-exosome containing formulation statistically decreased the melanin contents compared to the placebo control. However, the melanin-reduction activity was limited and diminished along with time. A further improvement in efficient transdermal delivery of ASC-exosomes will be helpful for more profound efficacy. In summary, these results suggest that ASC-exosomes can be used as a cosmeceutical for skin brightening.
“The science is clearly demonstrating that exosomes are the wave of the future not just for aesthetics but for many other areas of medicine, and the richest source of this material, by far, is adipose tissue“, says Dr. Randy Miller, M.D., F.A.C.S.
“We live in a world of high definition, where having a youthful, even toned, bright skin tone is ever elusive. My patients want perfection, integrating Exosome Regenerative Complex powered by ExoSCRT™ into treatments of patients wanting to gain a more even toned, brighter more youthful complexion is essential, it offers me unparalleled results, as well as offers me peace of mind in knowing that my patients will not hyperpigment further from treatments as often when laser, chemical peel, CO2, radio frequency, micro needling or PRP is used. I trust this product and the science so much so that I use this product on a bride that had less than 4 days until her wedding, and I can tell you that she was a blushing bride on her big day.” Dr. Diane Duncan, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. JD McCoy, NMP, whose patient roster includes professional athletes who do not have time for extended downtime and need to recover fast, adds Exosome Regenerative Complex powered by ExoSCRT™ to enhance treatment results, ”I’ve used multiple products such as growth factors or PRP over the years and I’m always looking for the best and most affordable, this satisfies both criteria. This is very easy to implement and it’s at a price point that makes it accessible for patients. The niche of regenerative products tends to be very expensive, and Exosome Regenerative Complex is not. I add the product to protocol for lighter and more aggressive treatments, as its speeds up the rate of healing, improves skin quality and provides added comfort during recovery, while the added key ingredients to intensely hydrate and a lit from within glow to the skin. By building the low-cost therapy into the overall cost of the treatment, then explaining the role of Exosome Regenerative Complex in their protocol, I see more and more patients returning to have stand along treatments with the product itself for maintenance.”
In addition to safety, efficacy, affordability, and utility, the shelf life of Exosome Regenerative Complex powered by ExoSCRT™ makes it appealing to physicians according to Dr. Duncan. Other doctors have also added: “Lyophilizing exosomes maximizes topical therapeutic potential. Making them idea for treatments” (Dr. Richard Goldfarb, M.D., F.A.C.S.); and “My goal is to deliver solutions and result for my patients, selecting the best method of treatments is given, but adding Exosome Regenerative Complex powered by ExoSCRT™ to treatments to cut downtime, and fight hyperpigmentation, and add an overall brightening to the complex is added insurance to ensuring patient satisfaction.“ (Dr. Richard Jin, M.D.,PhD)
Exosomes are lipid bilayer-enclosed extracellular vesicles, 30–200 nm in diameter, produced by almost all cells and present in all body fluids (8–10). They are regarded as an essential mediator of intercellular communication by transferring proteins and genetic material between cells. Several studies have shown that mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes carry the essential properties of mesenchymal stem cells suggesting that exosomes may be a compelling alternative in regenerative and aesthetic medicine, as they would avoid most of the problems associated with live mesenchymal stem cell-based therapy. Interestingly, recent studies have shown that human adipose tissue stem cell-derived exosomes possess the critical properties of stem cells and are as potent as mesenchymal stem cells in the repair of various organ injuries.
BENEV’s Exosome Regenerative Complex powered by ExoSCRT™ was developed and designed in tandem with the 4th largest exosome research company in the world, ExoCoBio. The intensive dual action complex is quickly absorbed into the skin, delivering the concentrated power of over 2.5 billion lyophilized exosomes, potent growth factors, peptides, co-enzymes, minerals, amino acids and vitamins. The paraben-free, steroid-free, and hypoallergenic patented technologies and ingredients are clinically proven to rejuvenate and regenerate the skin. “Lyophilizing exosomes maximize topical therapeutic potential. Making them ideal for treatments”, says Dr. Richard Goldfarb, M.D., F.A.C.S
ExoCoBio’s ExoSCRT™, is an innovative patented purification method of separating and refining 0.1 pure exosomes from stem cell conditioned media. The concentration of materials is significantly greater than what can be achieved with a product such as PRP. Studies have shown that this product increases fibroblast production by 180% and collagen production by 300%.
